 In 1996, a software management system was created that would enable community corrections facilities to easily manage their large volume of data. The goal of this system was to realize significant and measurable operational efficiencies while allowing staff members to collect and disseminate data quickly and efficiently to all departments.

This system, dubbed SecurManage (formerly CorTrac), was designed to track residents from the time of their acceptance into the facility through their release. The data collected relates to resident demographics, criminal history, medical and psycho-social history, educational and employment history, data from assessment instruments that measure risk of recidivism, educational aptitude and aptitude for employment.

In addition, SecurManage documents all contact with the residents in the form of case notes, prescriptive treatment plans, incident and violation reports and disciplinary and grievance procedures. SecurManage proactively informs staff of upcoming deadlines and performs escape notification and extraordinary occurrence reporting automatically. SecurManage also performs inmate trust accounting and end-of-month billing and invoicing. It empowers the staff by providing timely access to accurate, up-to-date data and eliminates data entry redundancy.

SecurManage is a user friendly system based on the familiar web based interface. While deploying any new software is always accompanied by initial user apprehension and resistance, SecurManage was deployed successfully and has seen several major product enhancements and upgrades. Currently, it is in its third generation and has been continually developed since 1996. By employing a system of exception reporting, SecurManage allows caseworkers and supervisors to quickly focus on the small group of residents that require maximum supervision and support. Summary reporting also allows supervisors to effectively evaluate the performance of staff.
